VERILY

Any press is good press, right?  RIGHT. That said, every once in a while someone who really gets who you are and what you strive to be, makes you their subject and the result is something that actually reminds YOU of what you've been trying to do all this time.  It's easy to get wrapped up in the grind of finishing orders, designing collections, and meeting deadlines. Every bit of it is exciting and adrenaline packed, especially when you're largely a one-person operation trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat every time you show up to the studio. And the busier things become, the less you remember all of the romantic reasons you set sail in the first place.  Basic tasks like eating, sleeping, and exercising become seriously overwhelming, and any spare moment you get to snuggle up to your sweetheart or your kitty cat seems like a miracle.  I'm talking about myself here, but I'm also talking about life as it appears to unfold for most people I know.  This isn't exceptional, this is what life looks like when pretty much anyone embarks upon their own journey with a creative business....

And there are affirmations.  Be they clients over the moon with their first pair of jeans (one of the BEST parts of my job), passing compliments from strangers, words of encouragement from friends and mentors following your progress, or milestones reached.  And then there are AFFIRMATIONS. Like winning an Emerging Designer Competition, getting a thumbs up and a bear hug from Fern Mallis, or having a new friend capture the spirit of your business so beautifully, so thoughtfully, that you take note of another miracle-- that you've been given the opportunity to live life as you choose.   Kathryn Stewart wrote a piece about Bow + Arrow for Verily Magazine that did just that, and it really made my week.
